Dr. Sheldon Pavel

From the Associated Alumni of Central High School:

It is with the deepest sorrow  that we share news of the passing of a trusted leader, dear friend, and true icon of Central High School.

Dr. Sheldon Pavel passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

Dr. Pavel is the longest serving President in the history of Central High School, spending 28 1/2 years as the head of our school, from 1984 until 2012. Even after his retirement, Dr. Pavel remained a mainstay at Central and AACHS events and gatherings, and was a huge advocate of the AACHS capital campaign project, Leading the Way.

Dr. Pavel’s contributions to Central are countless – he was a consistent positive voice of support for our community. He was an advocate for inclusivity, maintaining that all students and faculty – including women who attended and taught at our beloved school – were respected. He was devoted to making a difference at Central and cared deeply for each student – and he made every encounter feel uniquely personal.

Anyone who was fortunate enough to know Dr. Pavel was touched by his kindness, his humorous wit, his ability to listen and offer the best advice.

Our hearts are heavy, and to say that he will be missed is a tremendous understatement. Our sympathy, prayers, and warmest wishes for peace and comfort are with his family and loved ones.
